Insulation Crucible Furnace

Insulation crucible furnace calls a holding furnace or a soaking furnace. It's not for melting – that's a different machine. This one keeps already-molten metal at a steady temperature before casting.
Think of it as temperature maintenance, not phase change.
The goal is thermal retention and even heat. You want the metal liquid ready to pour – no hot spots, no cold spots. Good for die-casting and high quality pouring.

Danyang Dingfeng Industrial Furnace Co., Ltd. is one of the most reliable manufacturers and suppliers of insulation crucible furnace in China. If you're going to wholesale durable insulation crucible furnace made in China, welcome to get pricelist from our factory. All customized products are with high quality and low price.

Product Definition

Insulation crucible furnace calls a holding furnace or a soaking furnace. It's not for melting – that's a different machine. This one keeps already-molten metal at a steady temperature before casting. Think of it as temperature maintenance, not phase change.

Working Principle

You take pre-melted metal – from another furnace – and transfer it into this crucible. The crucible sits inside a heavily insulated chamber.

The heating system runs in low power mode. Just maintenance power. It only needs to make up for the small amount of heat that escapes through the insulation.

The insulation is high performance. It keeps the metal within a narrow range – often plus or minus one to three degrees C. That's tight. The metal won't cool down, won't solidify, won't develop temperature gradients. It just sits there, ready for the casting machine.

Features

Precise control

Sensitive thermocouples and PID controllers. You set a target temperature, the furnace holds it. For casting consistency, that's critical.

Even temperature

The heating layout and insulation work together. No local overheating. No chilling at the edges. The whole crucible stays uniform.

Fast response

Even with heavy insulation, the heating system can react quickly. If you open the door or add cold metal, the power adjusts. It doesn't let the temperature drop.

Clean metal

The heating is low turbulence. That means less dross – oxide slag – forming on the surface. Less waste.

Quiet and stable

Lower power operation means no roaring burners or noisy elements. It just sits there, doing its job.

Applications

  • Heavy-duty foundries. Copper, brass, bronze. Large scale melting and holding for industrial castings and valves. One foundry I know holds 500 kg of bronze at 1150°C for hours. Ready to pour whenever the mold line is ready.
  • Automotive and machinery. Aluminum and zinc alloys for high volume die-casting. Transmission cases, engine blocks, brackets. The holding furnace feeds the die-cast machine continuously. No waiting for metal to melt.
  • Non-ferrous smelting. Primary melting and alloying. Harsh environments, high intensity. The furnace takes a beating but keeps going.
  • Hardware and sanitary ware. Zinc and copper alloy components – faucets, fittings, architectural hardware. Mass production. The holding furnace keeps the metal ready for the next shot.
  • Metal recycling. Processing scrap. The lining takes physical impact from charging – people drop scrap in, sometimes heavy pieces. The insulation crucible furnace handles it better than some other designs.

Equipment Structure

Furnace shell and pit

Heavy duty cylindrical steel shell. Has to support the weight of the refractory brick lining. Brick is heavy. The shell needs to be thick – usually 8 to 12 mm depending on the size.

Refractory brick lining

This is the core feature. The whole pit is lined with interlocking high quality refractory bricks. Behind that, we put a layer of insulating firebrick or ceramic fiber. That's the thermal efficiency part.

Crucible

Removable. High temperature resistant. Steel or silicon carbide. This is the container that actually holds the metal.

Heating elements

Arranged around the crucible – circumferential. Electric resistance wires, silicon carbide rods, or gas/oil burners. The key is even distribution. You don't want heat coming from just one side.

Furnace lid

Heavy steel cover lined with refractory. Seals the furnace, keeps the heat in. A bad lid means heat loss and higher energy bills.

Control system

PID controllers, thermocouples, electrical cabinets. Precision process management. You set it and it runs.
