Working Principle

 

Simple idea. You pump protective gas into the furnace to push the air out. That gives you an inert or reducing atmosphere. The metal doesn't react with oxygen at high temperatures.

 

What gas do you use? Nitrogen, hydrogen, argon, or a mix. Depends on the material and what you're trying to accomplish.
