Product Definition
Box-type annealing furnace is a batch furnace – run a load, then another load, not continuous. You see these mostly in small to medium strip steel mills that need annealing in batches. Also does stainless steel quenching and annealing.
Heat source can be gas, fuel oil, or electricity. Usually runs with a protective atmosphere – keeps the metal from scaling. The material sits on racks, and the racks hang from the furnace cover.
Temperature ranges:
High temp furnace: up to 1200°C
Medium temp: up to 950°C
Low temp annealing: up to 650°C
Load size depends on the model. Small ones handle 100 kg. Big ones go up to several tons.
Working Principle
Three stages.
- Preheating. Start the furnace, the heating elements come on. Temperature climbs. This takes a while. You need to let the heat soak through the furnace so the whole chamber comes up evenly. If you rush it, you get hot spots.
- Soaking. Once you hit your annealing temperature, you hold it there. Keep it steady for a set period. This is when the metal changes structure – crystals reorganize, internal stresses relax.
- Cooling. After the soak, you cool it down. The cooling rate matters. Too fast and the material gets brittle. Too slow and the cycle takes forever. You have to control it.
